Listening is one of the most important — and least taught — communication skills. We spend over half our working day listening, yet fewer than 2% of us have ever been trained in how to do it well.
LISTEN© is a diagnostic developed from the IoweU™ trust methodology. It measures six dimensions of listening, identifies where you are strongest and where you have the greatest opportunity to improve.
The diagnostic takes around 8–10 minutes to complete. You can select individual aspects of LISTEN©, but our recommendation is to diagnose all aspects at the same time and generate a complete picture of your listening behaviours.
Be honest and answer quickly. The more honest and instinctive you are, the more useful your results will be.
Would you please help us with our research?
Please respond below to enable us to include your results in our analysis of LISTEN© trends.
Your results are anonymous in our database — we do not store name or email information at this stage.
We recommend completing all six categories for the most complete and useful results. However, you can choose to focus on specific areas if you prefer.

Listening is a skill that you can develop.
Your LISTEN© results highlight where you are strongest and where your greatest opportunity for improvement lies.
Use your results in three ways:
- Reflect. Before acting on any score, sit with it. Ask yourself: does this ring true? Think of recent conversations — do your results explain anything that puzzled or frustrated you about how those conversations went?
- Focus. Identify the one or two categories where improvement would make the biggest difference to your professional relationships. Don’t try to improve everything at once. The listening skill that is hardest to develop — Self — is often the most valuable to work on.
- Practice. Real improvement comes from deliberate practice in real conversations. Before each important conversation, choose one LISTEN© behavior to focus on. Afterwards, reflect on how you did.
LISTEN© is part of the IoweU™ trust methodology, developed by Keith Dugdale and David Lambert, and described in Smarter Selling. It is designed as a tool for self-awareness and professional development.
